What makes a good work environment

I always get this question in job interviews. I’m always afraid my answer is going to scare away my possible employment, but through past work experiences I know exactly what this answer is.

A good work environment is where the employees get along and can help each other out. Nothing is a competition, and everyone wants to help everyone else. Everyone is friendly so no one feels intimidated.

A good work environment is where the employees and management are a TEAM. Everyone works together and respects each other. (Heres where im afraid theyre not going to hire me) Not just employees respecting their managers, but the management having respect for their employees. Everyone understanding that we all have a common goal and are all doing our best to get there.

I’ve worked in a place where the management has just been nasty and abuses their power. I watched how dysfunctional the whole operation was. They made me feel crappy even though I was soon everything in my power to do everything right. There was no forgiveness for mistakes. There wasn’t a whole lot of understanding at all. Just yelling. I observed how much disconnect was between the management and the staff and I watched how poorly things went because of the poor leadership.

Now I’m in a place where everything flows smoothly and I feel like a respected and highly regarded member of the team as opposed to feeling like shit everyday. My summer jobs have done a 180 and I’m very grateful to learn what I have learned.
